My Solitary Ways - Jan. 30, 2011

My Solitary Ways

I thought you knew that I swim in unbound waters
Under starlit waves that hurry me along
So why are you here waiting
For me to scale those mountains
Where I don't belong?

Do my solitary ways softly whisper into your ears
As you watch me swim without restraint
Do they pierce your soul
Because I am not the same as you
Is this your complaint?

You say I would not miss one breath of this life I lead
That I may find those mountains surprising
Can you not observe by my smile
My life is pretty near perfect and shining
Without this climbing

I believe it best that you direct that look you are giving
To someone who feels out of place
Show them those mountains
You think I should be out there climbing
While I swim my race

  1. Strength, courage, and resolve is what I hear in this piece. For every woman, or man, who needs these words, find hope in them. Beautiful, Neva.

  2. With whales and dolphins for companionship who needs mountains to climb. Finding contentment in the sea is good. Swim Neva, just swim as you will.

  4. Neva I love this. The grace of contentment, too many people cannot begin to grasp what that is...perhaps because the are always so busy grasping!

  6. I really loved this, Neva. There is more than one way to live a beautiful life though some feel they have to make you see it their way...

  9. Have you ever read Emerson's Self-Reliance? This is very good, indeed. It reminds me of somedthing he may have said.

  10. An utterly heart rendering poem. The protagonist wishes to be alone.
